Background

The DB4 was introduced at the London Motor Show in October 1958. The coach work was designed by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan, Italy. Body construction is to 'Superleggera' specification, which means a lightweight body of light alloy construction around a small diameter multi-tubular framework, the whole mounted on a platform chassis. The new 3,7 litre, six cylinder twin overhead camshaft, all alloy engine was designed by Tadek Marek, it first ran in 1956 and was raced in the DBR2. There are five series of the DB4, with various improvements and styling alterations and just over eleven hundred cars were built in all. The DB4 series III, was introduced in April 1961 and remained in production until September 1961. During this period approximately 165 cars were constructed. The series three features revised rear lights on a chrome backing plate; single stalk switch; five rather than three demister outlets; courtesy switches; two bonnet stays; electric tachometer; modified hand brake; cover over clutch and brake pedal linkages. The 302 bhp GT engine was also fitted to three cars.

During the present owners stewardship, this particular car has been inspected by Aston Martin specialist, Messrs Post Vintage engineering and a written copy of their report is available. The clutch has been replaced and the rare overdrive unit (which can make all the difference on a long drive) overhauled at a total cost just in excess of £2,000. Other work undertaken has been to the cylinder head, steering and braking system. Documentation includes copies of the original factory build sheet and the old style folding Log Book.
